PARENT/PATIENT EVALUATION OF OUR CARE
This was a very warm and loving place for me. I learned more about my eyes than anyone else in my class, EVEN my teacher. It was a very enjoyable summer knowing that I can ride my bike, the words won’t dance anymore, and I can read faster than my science group. Thanks for building my self-esteem and eyes.

Thank you for making graduation possible for me.
Karen M. Duffy, 1991 Law School Graduate
I came to vision therapy with many areas of deficit, none of which had been diagnosed. It’s obvious to me that if vision problems are not corrected in childhood, they will persist into adulthood. During the last months, I’ve improved my ability to analyze visually, my visual memory, my ability to replicate what I see, my attention to detail, my ability to see things from different visual perspectives, eye-body coordination and balance. I can now assemble things and read symbolic directions. My driving has improved from my being a safe, compensated driver to my being a safe driver. The process of vision therapy is impressive and amazing. It incorporates the art and science of designing visual tasks that are just enough of a challenge without being intolerably frustrating. I have been marvelously challenged and supported by your staff.

Hello from Virginia! To bring you up to date, Kim is in the ninth grade, doing very well, both socially and academically. I, of course, credit your work with her in much of the excellent development she has achieved.
Diane Miller (Kim had vision therapy in the second grade.) The results do last.
Thank you is not enough for the effort that this group of professionals has put forth in helping my daughter strengthen her visual attributes. We started going to vision therapy once a week. I saw an improvement each time after therapy. Her work in school started improving. She even started reading at home. It really was wonderful to see her begin to understand and to strive to learn. Working with her at home sometimes became tedious. I gave up my spare time to work with her, but it was worth it. Her attitude about herself, school, her peers and her family changed. The headaches are gone and the eye pain only comes when she forgets her glasses, but the stress is not there. I feel that if an eye problem is diagnosed for you or your child, then by all means do your best to help your child or yourself and go through therapy. It has meant that my daughter can make it in today’s society. Now all she has to do is learn, but she can, because she can read.

From the time Kelly (our son) started kindergarten, his experiences in school were not favorable. We were told that his attention span was too short, that he refused to do work assigned, he was lazy, that he was continually disrupting the class. Kelly hated school and it was all we could do to get through the weeks. The school nurse said that testings on Kelly’s eyes had shown a decrease in vision. After a long, thorough vision test, the doctor informed us that there was something wrong with his eyes but that glasses could not correct it. He referred us to you. Kelly is now nearing the end of his therapy. Many improvements have been shown. He likes to read now. His eye/hand coordination is much better. During the last grading period, he had absolutely no detention notices -- in fact, he received a Citizen of the Month award! Fifth grade just may be the best year he has ever had, thanks to your care.

Thank you for helping me to do better in school. I enjoyed being there. I went from a C-D average to an A-B average in school just because of your help. If you know other kids who have a hard time in school, you should have them come to you for help. Eye therapy helps a lot.

For years Vincent struggled through his class work and homework never really understanding why every assignment was so difficult for him while seemingly so easy for his friends. When I found out about vision therapy, I knew it was something I had to look into for Vincent’s sake. We had tried ophthalmologists who told me he had perfect 20/20 vision. We tried counselors, resource specialists, speech therapists and even psychologists, all to no avail. Your program is the only thing that seemed to have a significantly positive effect on his vision and learning. This year I’ve watched Vincent kick the ball in soccer rather than missing it, play baseball like never before, and copy words from the board in half the time. His reading is improving at a marked pace. He went from a low first grade to a high second grade reading level in a few short months. He tells me reading is fun now because the words don’t move all over the page. Best of all, he loves school now. The frustration is gone and the eagerness to catch up and join his peers is very much evident. He feels empowered by his new-found vision and enjoys his new sense of confidence and self-esteem.

When I first brought Rodell to see you, he was considered ADD. He had trouble doing his schoolwork, so it would come home and we would “fight” to get it done in 2 3 hours. Since he’s been coming here, the only thing he has brought home is spelling. Everything else is being completed at school. There has been a noticeable change in wanting to be involved in sports. He throws and catches a ball easier, can kick a ball very well, ride a bike, and play with a racket. All this change is because of you and your staff.

We came to you because of problems Aaron had been having in school with his reading and attentiveness. We had been through many frustrating testing procedures with little or no results. I happened to see an article in the Union-Tribune about your vision therapy program. In vision therapy, Aaron became more confident in his ability to read and understand what he was reading. He could come home and do his homework completely on his own almost all the time. In fact, during the second and third grading periods in the school year, he brought all his grades up to A’s and B’s, and all his citizenship marks were excellents. In addition, Aaron also showed a lot of improvement in other areas, such as sports, soccer in particular. After being involved in vision therapy for just a few months, he became much more confident in his ability to play and became a more aggressive player. The vision therapy program did constitute a lot of time and hard work for Aaron and for me. It was a big commitment. We did our best, and the end result was worth it. In fact, if I had another child with the same problems, I wouldn’t hesitate to go through it again.

Last fall, my eyes were crossing in the distance so bad that I couldn’t drive anymore. (She was referred to the San Diego Center For Vision Care by a local optometrist.) He said I could put strong prisms in my eyeglasses to correct the eye crossing, but it would continue to get worse. He said it would be better if I could go to vision therapy. I would give it a try as I didn’t want fruit jar bottles for eye glasses. (After 8 months of vision therapy): My eyes no longer crossed; I also do not have so much trouble understanding what I read. I do not have to read the same thing over and over again. Where was vision therapy 45 years ago? School was always very hard for me. Now I know why. I hope more people will learn of the help that vision therapy can give them.

Before I started vision therapy, my eyes were not as good as they are now. They weren’t tracking. When I started vision therapy, my eyes started getting better...Now my eyes are as good as yours. I can see finally...Now I love vision therapy.

I sent you a letter describing the improvements in David’s motor skills. We attribute these improvements to vision therapy. There have also been significant improvements in David’s performance in school (grade 5). His teacher told us: He is getting higher grades on tests and participating more in class; he is more relaxed and happier; he can joke with her yet he’s respectful; he can laugh at himself when he makes a mistake; and he goes over for help when he doesn’t understand an assignment. He is doing better at getting homework in on time and being prepared for tests. He is more focused and alert, and he seems very motivated. Last month David was chosen to be “good citizen of the month.” Thank you for the great improvements in David’s life that have come about because of vision therapy. I can’t tell you how happy it has made our family to see these changes in David.

I really appreciate the way you are able to manage my son, James. Out of all of the specialists and professionals we have seen, you are the best. You and your whole staff amaze me. You are always patient, firm, understanding and, above all, consistent in your manner of working with my son.
